Spring Term

We are already a third of the way through the year (which means we have two thirds left - our fraction knowledge in Year 6 is coming along well)! The Spring Term is always a busy one: We have had time to settle in to the routines of Year 6 and now we are ready to accelerate through our next block of learning.

What have we been up to?

Spring 1

We have had a fabulous term! Have a read to find out what we’ve been up to so far in 2019.

English

In English, we voyaged on an incredibly perilous journey with ‘The Boss’. For our Power of Reading book, Shackleton’s Journey, we each took on the role of one of the 28 crew members who accompanied Shackleton on his now infamous expedition to Antarctica. During the unit, we have written persuasive letters, log entries detailing our journey, motivational speeches and chronological reports.

Maths

This term in maths, we are going to begin by consolidating our knowledge of decimals; then we will be moving on to multipling and dividing decimals. Following this, we will be exploring percentages and then algebra!

Art

Linking to our topic, we will be exploring Inuit art.

PE

In PE, we are working on our gymnastics skills. During our first session, Sarah (our gymnastic coach) has reminded us of the three elements of a warm-up.

Our Learning - Autumn Term

English

This term, for our Power of Reading unit, we have based our English lessons around the book Goodnight Mister Tom by Michelle Magorian.

We have particularly enjoyed particpating in drama activities such as conscience alley, freeze frames and hot seating.

Have a listen to one of our hot seating activities.
